Frejus, roman town

Famous for its ancient arenas

The history of Fréjus starts during Antiquity. This beach resort set between the Esterel and Maures massifs used to be a roman military harbour, which made it inherit splendid monuments such as the amphitheatre, part of the biggest ones of Gaul, the remainders of thermal baths, an aqueduct or the Gaul gate. But you can also visit more recent constructions, like the chapel designed by Jean Cocteau in 1961.
